First Principles Thinking

First principles thinking (FPT), a methodology from science regarding breaking down and reframing problems in more innovative ways, has recently come back into the headlines due to its new and famous practitioners (Elon Musk, I’m looking at you).

Whilst simple in principle, it requires practice and effort to apply at first in reality. But when you understand the benefits, the juice becomes worth the squeeze.

FPT is now being hailed as the future of innovation and intelligent design by multiple businesspeople and specialists around the world for its ability to break a problem down into its component parts, and put them back together again in a way which is more innovative or effective than the original. James Clear (linked right) is someone who with his book Atomic Habits, has brought this idea to the masses - a great starting point for anyone interested in the topic and beyond.
